Program Overview

Veterans Administration Specially Adapted Housing Grants is a program through which disabled veterans may receive a grant to acquire housing or modify existing housing with special fixtures and facilities necessary for the veteran. No restrictions on location.

Who is eligible for this program?

A qualified veteran must suffer permanent and total service-connected disability defined as: (a) loss or loss of use of both lower extremities that precludes locomotion without the aid of braces, crutches, canes, or a wheelchair; (b) blindness in both eyes and loss or loss of use of one lower extremity; (c) loss or loss of use of one lower extremity and the residual effects of injury or disease; (d) loss or loss of use of both upper extremities; or (e) the permanent and total disability is due to a severe burn injury. Funds are used to construct, acquire or alter a residence for a disabled veteran that will accommodate his or her disability.

Grant of up to $63,780 for the acquisition or retrofitting of housing to accomodate a veteran's service-connected disability. Maximum of $63,780.

Other Program Comments:An individual may obtain grants up to three times; however the aggregate benefit amount is limited to $63,780. Additional grants may not be obtained once the maximum benefit has been paid.
